 How Medart Galleries started... By Teresa M Radosevic Schrodel Gallery Director, Frame Designer As many of you may know, Medart Galleries is a family owned and operated business. While serving in the Navy, my father William Radosevic, was assigned to NATO Headquarters in Naples, Italy some forty years ago. He not only met the beautiful Neapolitan lady that he later married, AnnaMaria, but he also did extensive traveling throughout Europe. Dad met many artists and began collecting original oil paintings. 
The night before my brother Frank, who is our custom framer, was born, dad's old shipmate Jim was visiting and discussing what his career options were. It was decided that Jim would return to Italy, seek employment and continue his education. A partnership was established with Jim selling art to the American Forces in Italy and exporting oil paintings to my dad in the states. Our logo, designed by Jim, shows the Mediterranean Sea and the boot of Italy on an artist's palette. With Frank and me in tow, mom and dad began wholesaling original Italian oil paintings to art galleries up and down the east coast.  In 1979 they opened their first retail location
on Andrews Air Force Base, in Camp Springs, MD. In 1985 we opened a gallery
in Bright Center West located in Owings, MD. We stayed there until moving
here to Dunkirk Market Place in the summer of 1992. In May of 1997 we closed
our Andrew Air Force Base location, but many of our loyal military customers
have followed us to our Dunkirk location. Jim and his wife
now teach school in Europe for the Department of Defense.
Frank attended the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Photography, while working full time custom framing for our gallery. I attended Frostburg State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Station Management, with a minor in Public Relations & Marketing. While Frank and I intended to pursue other careers, we both love what we do and have decided to follow in our parents footsteps. Now you know a little about our history and where our name Medart came from. So when people ask how long Frank and I have been doing our jobs, we can honestly say, All our lives! |

We have expanded our selection of fine giftware, including photo frames, crafted by our very own framer, to an extensive selection of Ashleigh Manor photo frames. We offer a layaway program!
